Anti Aging Skin Care Products… Choose Wisely
A big question heard frequently is “What actually are the best anti aging skin care products?”
This is not easy to answer because there is no “general solution” just as there is no general problem. Each of us has to deal with our own situation be it dry or oily skin, breakouts, wrinkles, spotting, blemishes and on and on. It’s not a wonder, then, that protecting and beautifying our skin is such a big concern since it applies to all of us.
One situation we all share is that like it or not we are all getting older every day. That means whether we notice or not our skin is aging and the associated problems that accompany that are either starting to show or are well on their way. An anti aging approach makes more sense then just a cosmetic cover up because the results will not only look better, they will be better.
Anti aging skin care is a major concern, and specifically anti aging skin care products are in huge demand. In the USA alone it is a multi-billion dollar industry.
When approaching a solution for your skin care, it is a good idea to think beyond the immediate concern alone and to consider what you can do to actually prevent your problem from recurring. Anti aging skin care is the intelligent way to approach it.
Of course you can simply seek a quick solution to a specific concern, such as wrinkles or blemishes, and disguise it. But obviously, it would be better and less worrisome if you could just actually remove the problem entirely. Whatever your type of skin, whatever your age, whatever your gender, and whatever your concern (clear skin, visible pores, wrinkles or hydration, etc.), it seems that finding an anti aging approach and choosing anti aging skin care products that you can trust is the approach to take…and the challenge.
Skin care products in general are available in the form of creams (higher in oil than water), lotions (the reverse; more water than oil), gels (more for comfort usually) and serums which are generally more concentrated creams or lotions with contents designed to deal directly with specific problems.
Whichever anti aging skin care products you choose, you need to be aware of and concerned with their ingredients. These are some of the major ones:
Lipids are fats which are insoluble in water. These can help protect and insulate the skin from harmful elements such as bacteria and chemicals. Some lipids commonly found in cosmetic formulations are ceramides and liposomes.
Humectants will keep the skin moisturized and aid to prevent wrinkles. Examples found in skin care products are glycerin, panthenol and hyaluronic acid.
Peptides can help stimulate skin regeneration and to diminish wrinkles. Some which are found in cosmetic formulations most commonly are copper peptide, hexapeptide-3 and pentapetides.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids, which are known commonly as AHA’S, exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin, improving its texture. Alpha hydroxy acids in cosmetic products include lactic, tartaric, glycolic, malic and citric acids.
Retinoids are derivatives of vitamin A and can be useful to treat aging skin. One retinoid most commonly used in anti aging skin care products is tretinoin which has been shown to improve the condition of aging skin. Retinoids, however, can create adverse reactions, so be certain to check it out first to see if it is right for you or not.
Recently, a scientific development in anti aging skin care has created a whole new approach. The study of the human body’s genome (gene structure) has revealed, among many new discoveries, clusters of genes which are responsible for the way our skin ages. When we are young, these clusters are active in keeping our skin moist, pliant, and rich in collagen and elastin which prevents the development of any wrinkles.
As we age, these genes start to turn off and so does the production of these vital elements. A substance has been developed which can be applied directly to the skin in two different ways and which will reach those special gene clusters and turn them back on (called “genetic expression”), producing the skin of a 25 year old once again. If you are 50 you are not going to look 25, but you will look so much better that it is indeed a remarkable development. This innovative treatment has been developed as a result of the most recent genetic research and actually works to change the way our skin cells grow and develop.
Anti aging skin care and its products are in the forefront of scientific work being done by major educational and anti-aging skin care institutions. New and exciting developments are just beginning to be discovered and become available. The one recently mentioned in particular is actually groundbreaking and will totally change the way we approach dealing with our own beauty and our health from now on.This is an exciting time.
